🌾 TFTQ, Volume One: MYTH is comprised of photographs taken on Plum Island back in the late summer of 2015. An island overshadowed by a history of isolation, mystery, and contagion, having a farmer quarantined on his farm narrating, so to speak, the onset of incubation and isolation from the global pandemic felt, in hindsight, kismet. Because of this, the work begins to read less as a record and more prophetic, holding past and future into a self referential continuum of time and decay.
Tales from the Quarantine is a project born of both urgency and boredom—a creative riff on Dostoevsky’s Notes from Underground. In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, when the threat of imminent death cast everything in stark relief, the existential questions of that classic text felt more relevant than ever.
This project traced a thread of connection and solidarity between New York City and the North Fork of Long Island, pairing old, rarely seen photographs with quiet, reflective sentiments delivered via the postal service — a gentle reminder of a world beyond our immediate confinement. We sent unpublished photo project to different poets, inviting them to write on the backs of the prints. Their responses, prompted by both the imagery and the surreal context of the time, created a layered dialogue of memory and emotion.

Each volume of TFTQ will be a limited edition set by demand. Books will be individually printed - slowly - one by one. Each individual book is subject to character flaws. This first printing of each volume are thought of as artist’s proofs with photographs printed meticulously on newsprint alongside Hammermill cardstock for the accompanying poetry. Each pre-ordered book will come with a black velour pouch for archival storage to help preserve the newsprint - it must be “quarantined” from daylight, heat, and humidity as an ode to ephemerality, instability, and communication fatigue against the human attempt to impose meaning to the unknown.
